Rio: I started modeling when I was 17 years old. I was scouted by Abercrombie & Fitch while shopping at the mall with my parents. Two weeks later I became a “store model” for Abercrombie. Years ago Abercrombie scouted models who worked in the store and I was noticed by a talent agency, and that is how it all began.
Wiley: How is the modeling industry treating you?
Rio: The modeling industry is actually going pretty good so far! I just walked my first New York Fashion week this year of 2017 and just got invited back to walk this upcoming September! Also Instagram play a big role for me to be noticed on social media, I’ve worked with well know photographers and looking forward to growing as a model. Don’t get me wrong though its not easy and its A LOT of competition out here.
Wiley: I heard that many African American models find it hard to stay working, do you find yourself dealing with that problem ?
Rio: At times it can be a bit challenging to find work. However I tend to do pretty good with my bookings. However it is still discrimination towards black models in this industry.
Wiley: Do you feel like Chicago is the place for you to help take your modeling career to next the level?
Rio: HELL NO! Definitely New York or LA would be the place for me! New York is more easier to book shows and print, LA is very strict on looks and body so I have work to do. I need to get in the gym more if I think im going make it in LA haha!
Wiley: Who do you admire in the modeling industry ?
Rio: That is a really hard question! My inspiration would have to be Sacha M’Baye! Hes so talented and so humble, I can relate to him in so many ways. My favorite female model would have to be Naomi Campbell of course!
Wiley: How is your dating life ?
Rio: My dating life is drama and stress free! Im currently single and waiting for that little cutie to come into my life. Until then I am just focused on my brand and career.
